Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He is known for instrumental compositions such as the Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations, and for vocal music such as the St. Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor.
Bob Seay has had a long interest in classical music having studied oboe and clarinet as a young man. Using the opening chorus of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as an example, he will explore the techniques Bach used to construct his compositions producing what many consider to be the some of the greatest music ever created. Bob’s talk will include video excerpts of Leonard Bernstein talking about Bach and the St. Mathew Passion.
