Earth: Responsibility, Reciprocity and Right Relationship

Linda Coombs will discuss traditional Wampanoag practices that guided people in caring for the earth and maintaining the natural balance. She will offer specific examples of how these practices sustained the land. Her presentation will contrast these traditions with some of the harmful activities taking place today on Cape Cod, across the nation, and around the world. She will also explore the consequences of this damage and what it means when viewed through the lens of longstanding cultural values.
Linda Coombs is a citizen of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) and has lived within the Mashpee Wampanoag community for nearly 50 years. Her professional background is in museum work, with a focus on the accurate and respectful representation of Wampanoag and other Indigenous peoples.
