The Chapel in the Pines is the home of the legendary First Encounter Coffeehouse. It began in 1974 as a place for young families to socialize. Local musicians were invited to perform and word spread about the sanctuary’s remarkable acoustics.

Eventually some of the best folk, blues, and bluegrass performers in the country including Odetta, Tom Rush, John Sebastian, Joe Val and dozens of others appeared, attracting thousands of music lovers to the Chapel over its 50 year history.
