Franz Schubert (1797-1828)Austrian composer of the Romantic era. Not a concert performer or conductor and little noted during his lifetime. His work contained many innovative departures from classical prototypes and greatly influenced later composers.
“No one feels another's grief, no one understands another's joy.
People imagine that they can reach one another. In reality they only pass each other by."
“Where other people keep diaries in which they record their momentary feelings, etc.,
Schubert simply kept sheets of music by him and confided his changing moods to them;
his soul being steeped in music, he put down notes when another man would resort to words.”
Best known works: Symphony No.9, No. 8 "Unfinished," Wanderer Fantasy, Death and the Maiden Quartet, Trout Quintet, chamber music, many art songs.
