Johann Sebastien Bach (1685-1750)

German organist, musical director, and composer. Director of the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig from 1729.

The great Baroque contrapuctalist, created formal and intricate harmonic progressions.

Best known works: Well-tempered clavier, Mass in B Minor, Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew Passion, the Goldberg Variations (one of the most complex sets of theme and variations ever written), and the Brandenberg Concertos. Over 900 other compositions.
